ResearchWe improve the care, quality of life, and survival rate of children with malignant diseases. | |
Dr. Mitchell Cairo
Since the inception of the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation (PCRF) 30 years ago, the prognosis for children and adolescents with cancer was bleak with almost three out of every five children dying of their cancer. Thanks to PCRF’s almost 30 million dollars of support toward Pediatric Cancer Research, the prognosis is much brighter with only one of five children still dying of their underlying cancer.
Unfortunately, there is still much to do to not only have all children survive their cancer but as importantly reduce the burden of therapy and associated acute and late effects of current therapy. “The future of our children is now”. Real investment in PCRF supported research “now” will lead to increased cures, support novel, targeted and less toxic therapy and uncover the mysteries underlying malignant transformation in children and adolescents. On behalf of all the investigators of the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation Laboratory at New York Medical College, we thank PCRF Board of Directors, Officers, and Volunteers for their continued generous support of our research.
