Jeffrey Dankberg, Executive President
Dear PCRF Supporter,
I would like to thank you for your continued outstanding support of PCRF. Right now is an exciting time for PCRF as we begin our 30 year celebration and recognition. As we enter a new phase in the life of the Foundation I am pleased to introduce our new Executive Director, Jeri Wilson, and an entire new branch of dedicated volunteers and Board members on the east coast. PCRF has truly become a national organization and will continue to lead the fight against this dreaded disease.
In these tough economic times deciding where to donate can be a difficult decision. For that reason, we will always be as transparent as possible and exceptional stewards of your contributions. Since our inception, we have raised almost $30 million dollars for the fight against pediatric cancer, and over 80 percent of those funds have gone directly to support our research programs in the battle against childhood cancer.
To that end we have made tremendous strides over the past 30 years, with the survival rate increasing from approximately 20% to 80% for those diagnosed with pediatric cancer. This past year I had the opportunity to tour each of our key grantee research facilities and meet directly with the principal investigators at New York Medical College MD Anderson and Childrens Hospital Los Angeles and learn first-hand about the progress being made on a daily basis. But sadly, 1 out of 5 children with the disease will not survive their battle.
Finally, I’d like to relay a recent story from the principal of an elementary school that held a walkathon for PCRF. A second grader decided he wanted to break open his piggy bank from birth and donate the money to PCRF. He was so proud to announce that he had $76.87, but he said to me, “I’ll have to go to the bank and get dollars, because I don’t think I can fit all the change in my book bag!” By the way, that elementary school walkathon raised $12,000 for PCRF.
Please join us in the fight to save that 5th child as we work harder than ever to improve the care, quality of life and survival rate of children with cancer.
Warmest regards,
Jeff Dankberg
